Dr. Boddie previously served for eleven years as University Chaplain at Hampton University and pastor of the Memorial Church in Hampton, Virginia. He was also executive secretary of the nationally acclaimed Hampton University Ministers’ Conference. Dr. Boddie, an honor graduate of Morehouse College, earned a master’s degree from Stanford University and an
Ed.D. in religious education from Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, VA. A fourth generation Baptist preacher, Dr. Boddie served for six years as associate minister of the First Church of Newport News (Baptist), where his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Fred J.
Boddie, Jr., were pastor and first lady for nearly 40 years. |

Dr. Boddie succeeds the Reverend Dr. William V. Guy, pastor emeritus, who retired in 2007 after 36 years of outstanding Christian leadership and
pastoring. As he accepted the mantle of leadership, Dr. Boddie acknowledged the challenge “to preserve this wonderful heritage, while simultaneously, challenging us to remain relevant to each generation in an ever-changing, ever-evolving church and society.” |
